US warns against travel to Eritrea

Asmara - The United States has warned US citizens against visiting Eritrea after authorities in the often-secretive East African nation slapped new in-country travel restrictions on foreigners.

(London 31-05-06) - About a 100 protestors from across the UK held a vigil outside the Eritrean Embassy inLondon, on Wednesday 31st of May 2006. The vigil that was organised to mark the fourth anniversary since the closure of all Churches not belonging to the Orthodox, Catholic and Lutheran Churches of Eritrea, was attended by Eritreans and friends of Eritrea who travelled from across the UK and Ireland.

Eritrea tightens travel restrictions on foreigners 

Eritrea has tightened in-country travel restrictions on foreigners, requiring permits for diplomats, aid workers and visitors, reports reaching Addis Ababa said Friday.

Eritrea-US Relationship Deteriorates To New Lows

For the first time since 1991, the Eritrean Independence Celebrations held in various communities in the United States were not attended by a senior PFDJ visiting official or a government-sponsored cultural troupe.  According to family members contacted by Gedab News, the reason is because the United States did not grant entry visas to the musicians and senior PFDJ officials.
