In pursuing its forced relocation policy, the government of Eritrea recently has confiscated all farmlands located between the city of Mendefera and Imni Haili, a distance that covers close to 15 Km (about 9 miles). Sources say the government has already transported its own tractors and farming equipments, and started plowing the snatched lands. |

The protest is expected to take place Thursday, April 16, 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The European Union’s approval of the a 122 million Euro in development aid package for Eritrea sends the wrong signal to the brutal regime in Asmara, in a country run by an oppressive dictatorship where human rights are systematically violated and its impoverished people live in constant fear it is difficult to understand the EU’s decision. Given the blatant disregard that the Eritrean regime has for the legally binding principles set out in the Cotonou Agreement Eritrea, it is in clear breach of legal obligations required to receive this. |

US broadcaster CBS is reporting that Israeli troops attacked a convoy in Sudan in January, killing 39 people and destroying 17 trucks suspected of carrying illegal weapons bound for Egypt. Although Sudan said the US was responsible for the attack, CBS now claims that US Pentagon sources say it was carried out by the Israeli air force. أزمة بين النظام الإرتري والرشايدة بسبب إزالة قرية المكسرات | طلبت السلطات الإرترية من الرشايده سكان قرية المكسرات الواقعة قرب مدينة علي قدر غربي إرتريا بمغادرتها في غضون 24 ساعه وذلك في الخامس من مارس الجاري ولم يفصح النظام رسمياً عن الأسباب الحقيقية لهذا القرار إلا أن مصادر عليمة أفادت أن هذا القرار عتبر امتداد لقرارات سابقة حيث قامت السلطات قبل اسبوعين بمصادرة سيارات الرشايده وممتلكاتهم . وأضافت المصادر إن عدد السيارات التي تمت مصادرتها بلغت 80 سياره لاندركوزر وبك آب وتم نقلها إلى مدينة مصوع .

Principles of human rights, justice and rule of law are desirable but they are not primary objective of the European Union when dealing with aid recipient governments. European interests and the geo-strategic importance of a recipient nation often supersede legal or moral principles. The Eritrean government is a lucky beneficiary of this standard practice. That´s why, unlike Zimbabwe, European aid has been flowing and will perhaps continue to flow to Eritrea without strings attached.
