ASMARA (AFP) - The International Committee of the Red Cross said it had repatriated 400 people back to Ethiopia and Eritrea, two impoverished Africa nations still at odds over an unresolved frontier dispute.

Of the total, 372 people, including 14 unaccompanied children, crossed from Eritrea to Ethiopia at their common border at River Mereb.

ICRC said in a statement a further 18 people, including 13 children crossed from Ethiopia into Eritrea.

"Acting in its capacity as a neutral and independent intermediary, the ICRC carried out this repatriation with of the cooperation of the authorities," the statement said.

The two Horn of Africa neighbours have expelled thousands of "enemy" nationals since they fought a devastating war over a small border village known as Badme between 1998 and 2000. The border row remains unresolved.
