Three Eritrean men who had escaped from a detention centre some time ago were recaptured by sharp-eyed police officers in Birkirkara on Tuesday.
The officers were on duty in John Borg Street when they noted a foreigner looking out of a house window, after another foreigner had entered the house some time before.
They were told on the spot that a number of foreigners were living there and they began knocking on the door. No one answered, although there were people inside.
The police officers said that they had to force open the door and a subsequent search of the house revealed three foreign men who had no documents.
Further investigations showed that the men were from Eritrea and had escaped from a detention centre some time ago.
The men were held pending further investigations. |
