Swedish Journalists’ Association, along with Reporters Without Borders, Swedish newspapers editors, political parties, and artists/singers are planning to hold a mass protest to highlight the widespread of human rights violations and abuses that the Eritrean government is committing on its citizens. The protest is expected to take place Thursday, April 16, 2009 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The protestors will join forces and demand, among other things, the release of a Swedish-Eritrean journalist Dawit Issac, held in prison by the government of Eritrea since September 2001 without charge. In addition, the organizers of the protest are seeking to bring the grave and gross human rights violations, political repressions, and religious persecutions in Eritrea to the attention of human rights organizations, as well as to the international community.
